Elizabeth Gilbert is one of my favourite writers because she is downright honest and truthful.
My bestfriend X., (we've been together for 12 years now) told me to read Eat. Pray. Love. a year ago, because it seemed strangely uncanny how the writer and I both escaped to Milan and India in the quest for spirituality while being an emotional wreck. Well, I did read the book and from a literary perspective, thought of it to be plainly shallow. But Gilbert's raw emotions and secret thoughts appealed to our sad, monstrous, side altogether.
We all like to read someone else's diary, to find out that we're actually all the same inside:
Afraid and depressed.
But it's about learning to live with it, and intrinsically motivating the flesh for something greater than simply, ourselves.
