Life Box, by Bertho
Medium: Enhancen on Canvas (Lithograph)

Let me tell you why Phillipe Bertho is one of the coolest people ever (other than the fact that his work is fantastic). One of the dudes at Martin-Lawrence Galleries told me that Bertho refuses to leave his small village in France, despite the rising popularity of his work. He really likes the village life and does all his prints via the old fashioned lithograph way in his tiny workshop. At one of the gallery parties in LA, they flew the country bumpkin in to promote his new exhibition (which included Life Box). Everyone was having a blast, drinking champagne and chilling, when somebody suggested to change some music. Bertho enthusiastically agreed and headed over to the DJ console to ask for CDs. Then the DJ whipped out an iPod and asked him to choose his songs. Bertho then proceeded to say "Where iz de songz? 2000 songz in dere?" (with his thick french accent), and everyone almost died laughing. How can someone be so cool and not know of the existence of an iPod?

I love this dude. Thanks mom for the piece, it's great!
